How to Use Flux 2 Dev in 2026: 3-Credit Images, Tested
Oct 2026
Flux 2 Dev is Black Forest Labs' 32-billion-parameter open-weight model, announced in November 2025. On Flick it costs 3 credits an image and returned 1024 × 576 for 16:9. It handled photographs, text and watercolor well in our tests. It does not take Flickpedia styles.
Quick answer: how do you use Flux 2 Dev?
Add an image node in Generate Image, pick Flux 2 Dev, and write the scene. Then:
- Leave the style on "No style". Flux 2 Dev has no reference-image input on Flick, so a Flickpedia style cannot reach it.
- Write the medium into the prompt instead, such as "watercolor and ink" or "35mm photograph".
- Make text large in the prompt. A "small line" came back very small.

How we tested
Three plain prompts in October 2026, the same ones we ran on ten other models:
A vintage travel poster for a seaside town called "Porto Lume": a white lighthouse at dusk above a calm blue bay, flat screen-printed colors, the bold serif title "PORTO LUME" at the top and the small line "Summer Ferries Daily" at the bottom.
The other two were a rainy street-food stall as a 35mm photograph and a fox in a yellow raincoat as a watercolor children's book illustration.
Three test prompts

- Street food, 35mm: sharp and well staged: noodles in the air, flame, steam and two customers. The signs are invented characters.
- Poster: "PORTO LUME" and "Summer Ferries Daily" both spelled right. The tagline is tiny and sits on the bottom edge, literally "small".
- Fox: the cleanest watercolor of the set, with light through the trees and the map in both paws.
Wall-clock time on our busy canvas ran from 10 to 106 seconds.
No Flickpedia styles
A Flickpedia style works by sending reference images with your prompt, and Flux 2 Dev on Flick has no reference-image input. When we pinned one, the job failed within seconds and the credits came straight back. Write the style into the prompt instead.
When to use it, and when not
Use it when: you want a strong all-round image for 3 credits: photographs, illustrations and short text.
Skip it when: you need a pinned style across shots, or a large file. Seedream 5.0 Lite took styles and returned 3072 wide for 7 credits.
