Seedream 5.0 Pro vs GPT Image 2.5: Tested (2026)

In our six same-prompt tests, both models spelled the quoted English words, the comic balloons and the storyboard labels correctly; GPT Image 2.5 kept the accent in "Café" that Seedream 5.0 Pro dropped, and costs less at default settings.

Seedream 5.0 Pro is ByteDance's flagship image model, launched on July 8, 2026 and in Flick since October 29, 2026, and GPT Image 2.5 is OpenAI's image model that Flick picks for its agent by default. Both promise accurate text in pictures, which is where image models still waste the most runs: a poster with one wrong letter, a sign in the wrong script or a storyboard label that reads as noise. So we gave Seedream 5.0 Pro vs GPT Image 2.5 six identical prompts in Flick at each model's default settings: a film still, a poster, Japanese and English signs, a comic page, a watercolour and a storyboard. This page shows every result side by side, what each model spelled right and wrong, what it costs, and which to pick for which job.

How do Seedream 5.0 Pro and GPT Image 2.5 compare on Flick?

At default settings GPT Image 2.5 costs 5 credits an image against 14 for Seedream 5.0 Pro, while Seedream 5.0 Pro returned more pixels and both take up to 10 reference images.

Where these figures come from

Prices, settings, reference limits, plans and the picker's time estimates are read from Flick's model config. The image sizes are measured on the files our default runs returned. We did not time the runs, so the time row is the picker's estimate, not a measurement.

The release date and ByteDance's own claims, such as native text in over ten languages and point, lasso and layer editing, are from ByteDance Seed's launch post. Flick's node takes a prompt and reference images, and we did not test the other editing tools.

How did we test Seedream 5.0 Pro against GPT Image 2.5?

Each pair used a byte-identical prompt and each model's default settings, Seedream 5.0 Pro at 1.5K and GPT Image 2.5 at medium and 1K, with no reference image and no Flickpedia style.
  • One run per model per test, so these are six single takes, not averages.
  • All twelve images were made in Flick on October 30, 2026.
  • We read every image at full size and checked each quoted word letter by letter.
  • Four tests came back as 16:9 frames on both models and the poster as a 3:4 portrait on both, so the shapes match within each pair.

Which model makes a more realistic film still?

Both made a convincing night portrait lit by an oil lamp with rain on the window; neither framed it as the close-up the prompt asked for.
Cinematic film still, close-up of an old lighthouse keeper with a weathered face and grey stubble, lit by a single oil lamp at night, rain on the window behind him, shallow depth of field, 35mm film grain

GPT Image 2.5

GPT Image 2.5: an old keeper in a dark cap and sweater holds an enamel mug by an oil lamp, a lighthouse beam beyond the wet glass
  • Seedream 5.0 Pro framed him from the waist up beside the lamp, with grey stubble as asked, and dressed the table with a compass, a pen, charts and a glass of whisky.
  • GPT Image 2.5 came closer, to the chest, gave him a fuller grey beard than stubble and a fisherman's cap, and put a lighthouse beam in the rain outside.
  • Both added a lighthouse through the window, which the prompt never named, and neither added text or a watermark.

Which model spells poster text correctly?

Both spelled "THE LAST LIGHTHOUSE" and "Every light goes out eventually." correctly, and both invented a readable credits block with made-up names.
A vintage sci-fi movie poster. Title at the top in bold condensed letters: "THE LAST LIGHTHOUSE". Tagline at the bottom: "Every light goes out eventually." A lone lighthouse on a cliff under a green aurora, a small credits block under the tagline.

GPT Image 2.5

GPT Image 2.5 poster: black condensed title on cream paper above a framed photo of a white lighthouse beaming under an aurora
  • Seedream 5.0 Pro ran the photo to the edges with the title in cream over the sky, and wrote a credits block of three lines: "DIRECTED BY J. HALE", "STARRING E. SHAW, K. ROSS" and "BASED ON THE NOVEL BY T. NORTH".
  • GPT Image 2.5 set a black title on cream paper above a framed photo, and wrote a two-line billing block of invented names, from "NORTHRIDGE PICTURES PRESENTS" to "A HORIZON RELEASE".
  • Both credits blocks read cleanly at full size, with no garbled letters, so check invented names before you print a poster from either.

Which model writes Japanese and English on the same sign?

Both wrote "夜明けの喫茶店" and "Coffee 500円" correctly; GPT Image 2.5 also kept the accent in "Dawn Café", which Seedream 5.0 Pro wrote as "Dawn Cafe".
A narrow Tokyo side street at night, rain on the asphalt. A small café's lit sign reads "夜明けの喫茶店" in large letters with "Dawn Café" underneath, and a chalkboard by the door reads "Coffee 500円". Cinematic, 35mm.

GPT Image 2.5

GPT Image 2.5: a glowing Japanese café sign over a dark wooden front on a wet night street, a chalkboard with a coffee cup drawing
  • Seedream 5.0 Pro wrote the seven Japanese characters and the chalkboard correctly but dropped the accent from "Café", and added an old man at work behind the window.
  • GPT Image 2.5 wrote all three strings exactly, accent included, and added two readable signs of its own: a "やきとり" lantern down the street and a "3-17" address plate.
  • Both kept the scene at night in the rain, with wet asphalt reflecting the light.

Which model draws a comic page with the right balloons?

Both drew six panels in two columns of three and put "It flew this way!", "Woof?" and "Found it!" in panels 1, 3 and 6, spelled correctly; they differ in gutters and in extra text.
A full comic book page with six panels in a 2 by 3 grid, clean black gutters. A girl and her robot dog search a flooded city for a lost kite. Speech balloons: panel 1 "It flew this way!", panel 3 "Woof?", panel 6 "Found it!". Inked lines, flat colors.

GPT Image 2.5

GPT Image 2.5 comic: six panels of a girl in a red hoodie and a robot dog crossing a flooded city, ending with a torn red kite
  • Seedream 5.0 Pro numbered the panels 1 to 6 and separated them with white gutters inside black borders, not the black gutters asked for; its one extra sign, a "RAMEN" billboard, carries a line of unreadable small print.
  • GPT Image 2.5 used thin black gutters as asked, and painted three slogans the prompt never wrote, "RIVERDALE", "A BRIGHTER TOMORROW STILL POSSIBLE" and "CITY STRONGER TOGETHER", each spelled cleanly.
  • Both told the story: the kite is spotted, the pair cross the water, and the girl holds the kite up in the last panel.

Which model paints a softer picture book illustration?

GPT Image 2.5 left far more white paper showing, as the prompt asked, while Seedream 5.0 Pro filled the sky with a blue wash and painted a fuller scene.
A children's picture book illustration in soft watercolor and pencil: a fox reading a map by lantern light in a snowy forest, warm and cold colors, lots of white paper showing.

  • Measured on the files: near-white pixels, paper or snow, cover 53% of GPT Image 2.5's picture against 21% of Seedream 5.0 Pro's, and 41% against 2% in the top half, where the sky is.
  • Seedream 5.0 Pro painted a fox sitting on all fours over the map with soft fur and a glowing brass lantern, closer to a finished painting than to pencil and wash.
  • GPT Image 2.5 drew an upright fox in a scarf and backpack with visible crayon and pencil strokes, a red lantern on a stump and a map marked with a red X.

Which model lays out a storyboard sheet with labels?

Both drew four pencil panels in a row and typed all four labels letter for letter; GPT Image 2.5 drew the town watching as a crowd, Seedream 5.0 Pro as a view of the town.
A film storyboard sheet with four panels in a row, each with a hand-drawn sketch and a typed label underneath: "1. WIDE - harbor at dawn", "2. MEDIUM - fisherman pulls the net", "3. CLOSE - a glowing fish", "4. OVER THE SHOULDER - the town watches". Pencil on white paper.

GPT Image 2.5

GPT Image 2.5 storyboard: four pencil panels of a harbor at sunrise, a fisherman hauling a net, a fish in the net and a crowd watching
  • Labels: both typed "1. WIDE - harbor at dawn", "2. MEDIUM - fisherman pulls the net", "3. CLOSE - a glowing fish" and "4. OVER THE SHOULDER - the town watches" exactly, in a typewriter face, with the hyphens kept.
  • Seedream 5.0 Pro made the fish glow brightest, as a white burst framed by net, and drew panel 4 over the fisherman's shoulder toward the town's houses, with no people in it.
  • GPT Image 2.5 drew panel 4 over his shoulder toward a crowd of townspeople looking back, which reads closer to "the town watches".

Seedream 5.0 Pro or GPT Image 2.5: which should you pick, and when?

Pick GPT Image 2.5 when exact text and price matter, and Seedream 5.0 Pro when you want a larger default image or a fuller, painted look; for plain English text, both did the job in our tests.
  1. 1. GPT Image 2.5 for exact accents

It kept the "é" in "Dawn Café" where Seedream 5.0 Pro dropped it, so try it first for signs and titles with accented or mixed-script words.

  2. 2. GPT Image 2.5 for a lower price

It costs 5 credits at its defaults against 14 for Seedream 5.0 Pro, a launch price at half off, so check the node before a long run.

  3. 3. Seedream 5.0 Pro for more pixels

Its default 16:9 image measured 2048 × 1152 against 1536 × 864, so it gives more to crop or upscale from at the default setting.

  4. 4. Seedream 5.0 Pro for a painted finish

It filled the frame with colour in the watercolour and poster tests, where GPT Image 2.5 left white paper and a cream border, so pick by the look your film needs.

These are single takes on six prompts, so run your own pair before you commit a whole film to one model.
